I was really casual today: light wash jeans with holes at the knees, plain white cotton round neck Hanes tee, and leather flips. No jewelry. What do you think?
Thanks,
Distressed
You need help. I think it's great for cleaning the house, but not for public viewing. Although distressed jeans are a fashion statement, they are meant to be worn ironically, not because you were too lazy to change your clothes after you purged the closet (let's hope.)
Analyze the elements of a successful edgy outfit, and note how yours is lacking:
Hot shoes? No. Ferosh top? No. Great Pants? Nada.
If things are neglected that far, it goes past edgy and veers into ramshackle.

The distressing is a detail in a perfect outfit. Hair, Top, Shoes, Jeans.
Go back inside and put together a perfect denim outfit, casual, but still perfect. Show us what you can do.

Here's a comment from Jan:
"Please refrain from basing your posts on critiques of outfits recently posted on the... W/o asking permission, that could be viewed as a personal attack and will generally be seen as an attempt to intimidate others by talking about them behind their back. This girl didn't "send an SOS" to get your opinion, you just decided to give it unsolicited..."
Thanks for that, Jan! Welcome to SOS!
Bloggers who publish opinions about anything appearing in the public view are protected by the First Amendment of the US Constitution. I'm pretty sure this covers written critiques of outfits posted anonymously on open message boards devoted to Fashion Advice, but I'll check.
And, BTW, torn jeans worn with tees&flips aren't exactly rare viewing these days, so maybe it wasn't only your friend who needed my help.
Best wishes,
Pres

Ok, so it's legal. But the real question is, "was it kind"? That is all - J
Pres: What a timely question! It's kinder to teach lovely young people fashion skills, than to let them languish in failed outfits. It does take education&work to look terrific, but it's worth it. Same as learning to play an instrument. No effort, no result.
BTW, here's a survey (published just a few days ago!) that has statistics about the motivation behind dishonest evaluations.

why do people feel the need to critique someone's outfit? i see no point in just wearing whatever you want. if i feel the need to wear a shirt that's stained with leather jeans, then i'm going to do it. if someone simply wants to wear whatever they have in their closet, then there's no problem...
