Here's a Blog post from today's Guest Blogger, Caron:

Palm Beach Hose

As a Floridian, I vote "NO"! But we all know how hard it is to get votes counted in Florida!

Enjoy, my friends,

LOL Caron,
that is unbelievable in Florida of all places!!!!

I was at a family wedding two weeks ago where the Mother of the Bride wore open toe strappy sandals - with guess what? Pantyhose. The temperature that day was 103 in the shade.

Hello, Ladies! Good day to you!

I have mixed feelings about the article. I don't wear hose, never have (except the past two winters nice opaque with textured/designs or small fishnets in various colours) but never pantyhose per ce, it's just too hot in Puerto Rico and I never got used to it if there was ever an ocassion, which there never was, it just is rarely done. While I understand the argument that it is rather silly, (taking into consideration the heat and the discomfort), it worries me that there is so much whining about wearing a garment for a couple of hours. Gosh, are we really that lightweight that we can't for the sake of it being tradition or school rule force ourselves to a little bit of discomfort for just a couple of hours? It just worries me! Our past generations went through so much, suffered so much, lived without much, went hungry or were persecuted and we're too pampered to withstand a bit of hose out of respect for the ceremony or tradition???...yes...i am an incurably old fashioned soul. So much sorrow in the world and some teenagers are outraged about wearing hose? (which I repeat~ I don't wear myself, so I'm not being biased). AAhh, for me it's the principle of the thing~ Life will get tougher than wearing hose in 90 degree weather~and they can quote me on that! ;)

Hi Ileana,
you do make a valid point with regard to the teenagers.

I guess I just don't like hose with open toe strappy sandals, and that was something that where I came from as a teenager (many years ago) was considered a faux pas even then. But you are right, in the scope of things that are very important in life, this doesn't rank high on the list.

Pantyhose for graduation, if that is the requirement - then yes out of respect for the ocassion it would be appropriate. I would wear closed toe shoes.

For my high school graduation, I had the same rules, and what irritated me then and now was that on top of purchasing the gown, the regalia, and the announcements/invitations, I now had to buy a white dress and white shoes too, both of which were only worn the once. This, of course, was also after buying a senior yearbook, prom dress, prom shoes, and prom tickets too! I can understand requiring dress shoes and a light colored dress so that it doesn't show through the gown, but white for everything? In a way, requiring pantyhose doesn't make much logical sense either because from a distance, you can't even tell if someone's wearing it or not, so why make it mandatory?

I went to private Catholic school (the undisputed king of arbitrary rules) until high school, so I was used to some pretty rigid restrictions. BUT, if schools really want to make requirements on student's dress, why not enforce the preexisting attire rules for school more? We had very few basic rules at my high school: no offensive sayings/graphics, no bare midriffs, no short shorts or skirts, and no cleavage. There were tons of offenders on all fronts, but the only time the school cared was when the parents were there to actually see how poorly the school was monitoring its students.

Wow, Siepres,
that's a lot of cash to invest in the graduation ceremony. A white dress under a graduation gown? Too bad the kids couldn't have had something they might wear again.... Maybe a white skirt and blouse would be an alternative...

I would be in the same boat, because I don't wear much white at all. It's just not my thing.

Some of my favorite people went to private Catholic schools... :-) They certainly have some interesting stories to tell!
